Shani Mootoo is a Canadian author who grew up in Trinidad. She is the author of Moving Forwards Sideways Like a Crab (2014), Valmiki’s Daughter (2008),  He Drown She in the Sea (2005), The Predicament of Or (2001), Cereus Blooms at Night (1996), and Out on Main Street and Other Stories (1993). She is the recipient of the K.M. Hunter Literature Award, and was longlisted for the Man Booker prize, and was a finalist for the Chapters/Books in Canada First Novel Award, the Giller Prize, and the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize.
